How to Make a Simple Buffalo Check Farmhouse Plant Jar

Start by cutting your transparent scrapbook paper (What a SCORE at Hobby Lobby!) to fit inside of the Dollar Tree wooden crate.

I sat my crate on top of the scrapbook paper and traced around it. Then, just rim up the edges so that it fits perfectly inside the crate.

You can press the scrapbook paper into the inside of the crate and then use an Exacto knife to cut the excess off.

Before you decoupage the scrapbook paper onto the wood, you need to paint the wooden crate white. I used Dixie Belle Fluff Chalk Paint, but Apple Barrel would work just fine.

Then, let the paint dry. I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process. If you don’t have a heat gun, you can always use a hairdryer on the low cool setting.

Hot glue four Dollar Tree wooden craft cubes to the side of the Dollar Tree wooden crate that you want to be the bottom of this decor piece.

How to decoupage

Next, it is time to decoupage the transparent buffalo check scrapbook paper to the inside of the crate. Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the inside of the crate.

BTW, Here is another decoupage project you might love its a Pizza Pan Lemon Decor Project!

Then, carefully place the scrapbook paper onto the Mod Podge. You can ball up a piece of plastic saran wrap and use it to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles that may have formed.

Once the Mod Podge has dried, you can place the moss sheet on the bottom of the crate. I cut it to the right size first, then hot glued it in place.

Next, get your Dollar Tree travel bottle and the jute twine. Take the cap off the travel bottle, and wrap the jute twine around the center of the bottle several times.

Use a little bit of hot glue to secure the twine in place. Then, wrap the white cotton cord around the jute twine a few times.

Bring it all together

I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t add a bit of raffia! Get a hand full of raffia and tie a piece of raffia around the bundle’s center. Trim the ends of the raffia, and hot glue it to the jute twine.

Pick your greenery (trim it down a bit if you have to to make it fit inside the crate) and push the stems into the decorated travel bottle.

Hot glue the travel bottle to the bottom of the crate (on the moss sheet) and press it down to make sure it gets secured properly.

Lastly, I went back over the wooden crate and wood craft blocks with grey paint. I used Dixie Belle Driftwood Chalk Paint, but Apple Barrel would work just fine!
