3 Lemon Printable DIY Decor Ideas for a Tiered Tray

3 lemon printable DIY decor ideas for a tiered tray

I seriously could not be more excited to share these amazing 3 lemon printable DIY decor ideas for a tiered tray!

A while ago, I made a tiered tray out of Dollar Tree burner covers and glass candle holders, and since then, I’ve gotten so many questions about how to actually decorate the tiered tray.

Well, I came up with three different DIY ideas (using my own lemon printable designs) to decorate a tiered tray!

If you don’t have a tiered tray or aren’t a fan of them, you can even use these DIY decor ideas as simple shelf sitters or add a hanger and use them as wall decor!

Lemon Printable DIY Decor Idea #1

This first lemon printable DIY decor idea was so much fun to make, and I am so happy with how it turned out. There is just something so perfect about pairing navy, white, and lemons together!

How to Make Lemon Printable DIY Decor Idea #1

Alright, the first thing you need for the first of the 3 Lemon Printable DIY Decor Ideas is the lemon printable.

The printable that I used for this project is an exclusive design for members of the Creative Haven!

Once you have your printable, go ahead and get your Dollar Tree sign box. I used an Easter sign for this project, but you can use any sign or frame.

I had to remove the metal piece on the back of the sign that allows you to hang it. Then, I painted the inside of the sign with white paint.

I like to use Apple Barrel acrylic paints because they are so affordable, but still great quality for my DIY projects!

Let the white paint dry (I like to use my heat gun to speed up the drying process), then make sure your printable will fit inside the sign.

Next, you’re going to cut the blue and white straws to fit inside the sign. I laid them all in the sign and marked on them where I had to cut them.

Then, just cut them all to the right size and hot glue them inside the sign box.

How to decoupage your printable

Cut a piece of foam board to the same size as your lemon printbale design. Then, apply a coat of Mod Podge to the foam board and press the printable onto the surface.

You can use a rolling pin or some balled up plastic saran wrap to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles in the paper.

You could also use cardboard instead of the Dollar Tree foam board, but you would need to paint the cardboard white before decoupaging the printable.

The decoupaging technique isn’t going to change for each of these 3 Lemon Printable DIY Decor Ideas for a Tiered Tray, so keep your Mod Podge handy if you’re making all of them.

Next, go ahead and cut four strips of the adhesive diamond wrap and stick it around the face of the sign. You can use a bit of hot glue to make the diamond wrap secure to the sign more.

Now, hot glue the decoupaged foam board onto the straws. For this next part, I used a drill, but you can just hot glue the flowers to the top of the sign if you don’t have a drill.

Drill three holes in the top of the sign box, then trim the stems of your flowers and push them into the holes you just drilled. You can also add a dab of hot glue to really secure them in place!

Lemon Printable DIY Decor Idea #2

This second lemon printable DIY decor idea was brought to life when I redid a printable that I had previously offered on my blog.

I created the design for this printable, and instantly started thinking of ways to use it to decorate a tiered tray that I made a while ago!

Once you have your printable printed and ready to go, you need to remove the canvas from your Dollar Tree canvas. I used an Exacto Knife to cut the canvas on the front of the frame.

I wanted to have clean, straight edges so that I could reuse the canvas on another DIY project idea later.

Then, pull the rest of the canvas off the back of the Dollar Tree frame. You can either remove the staples from the back of the frame or hammer them back in like I did.

How to stain wood

The next step is to stain the wooden frame of your Dollar Tree canvas! This is the technique that I use, but if you have one that your prefer, absolutely go with that one!

Spray the wood with a bit of water (I use a continuous mist spray bottle that I found on Amazon), pour the brown paint onto the wood, and use a wet wipe to spread the paint across the frame.

The water helps the wood absorb the paint’s pigments and really gives it the perfect stained finish. Now, let the frame dry completely. I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process.

Decoupage your Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy Printable

Lay the canvas frame on top of your printable design and trace it onto the printable paper. Then, cut the printable design.

Next, you’re going to create the backing for this project. I used quart paint sticks for this. Lay them side by side then secure them together by hot-gluing two more paint sticks across them.

Remember, the decoupage technique for this Lemon Printable DIY Decor Idea is the same as the previous one, but I’m still going to go through it again.

Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the front of the craft sticks, then place the printable. Lay plastic saran wrap over the printable and use your fingers to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles.

Let the Mod Podge dry, then use a pair of scissors to cut the excess paint sticks from around the printable design.

Hot glue the decoupage printable to the back of the Dollar Tree canvas frame, then push a metal thumbtack into each corner of the canvas frame. Hammer them lightly to really secure them in place.

Make a DIY ribbon bow

Cut a strip of black buffalo check ribbon and fold it into a bow. Secure the center of the bow with a piece of jute twine, then trim the ends of the twine and ribbon.

Once you’re happy with your bow, hot glue it to the top of the frame for this Lemon Printable DIY Decor Idea for a Tiered Tray!

At the same time that I redesigned the Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy printable, I also redesigned a lemon truck printable that I was offering.

I just knew that this lemon truck printable and the easy peasy lemon squeezy printables would go great together on my tiered tray, so I decided to make both DIY ideas in the same video!

Once you have the printable printed and ready to go, it’s time to bring this lemon printable DIY decor idea to life!

Instead of using a Dollar Tree canvas for the frame of this project, I made one out of Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower blocks!

How to make a DIY frame

First, cut your printable to the size that you want your design to be, then lay the Tumbling Tower blocks around it to determine how many blocks you’ll need.

3 Lemon Printable DIY Decor Ideas for a Tiered Tray

Then, hot glue the blocks together to create your frame. You can line the blocks up next to a straight edge, like a ruler, to make sure they are in straight lines when you glue them together.

Next, you’re going to get your quart paint sticks. I used four paint sticks because of the size of my frame and secured them together by hot-gluing two paint sticks across them.

Lay your frame on top of the paint sticks and mark the edges of the frame on the sticks. Then, trim the excess paint sticks to make them fit behind the frame.

You’re going to decoupage your lemon truck printable onto the paint sticks the same way you decoupaged for the previous two Lemon Printable DIY Decor ideas.

3 Lemon Printable DIY Decor Ideas for a Tiered Tray

Once the printable is decoupaged, you need to stain your DIY block frame. Again, use the same staining technique as the previous DIY project.

How to make a DIY ribbon bow

Before I made my DIY ribbon bow, I hot glued a strip of buffalo check ribbon across the top and bottom of my frame.

Then, go ahead and hot glue the decoupaged paint sticks onto the back of the DIY frame. For the bow, I used a strip of ribbon with a lemon design.

3 Lemon Printable DIY Decor Ideas for a Tiered Tray

Fold the ribbon strip into the shape of a bow and secure the center of it with a piece of jute twine. Trim the ends of the twine and ribbon and hot glue the bow on the frame above the printable.

Finally, you’re going to put metal thumbtacks in each corner of the frame, just like you did on the previous lemon printable DIY decor idea!
