How to Make a Hobby Lobby Placemat DIY Pumpkin Door Hanger
The first step of making this fall pumpkin door hanger is removing the metal leaf from the front of the Dollar Tree pumpkin sign.
I used my putty knife to pry the metal leaf off the sign. Just be careful not to slip and cut your fingers with the putty knife.
Then, cut the jute twine hanger off the sign. Put the Hobby Lobby placemat face down and trace the shape of the pumpkin on the back of the placemat.
Cut the pumpkin shape out of the placemat and hot glue it to the front of the pumpkin sign. Next, you’re going to deconstruct the grapevine wreath to frame out the pumpkin.
Cut the grapevine wreath into several smaller pieces and hot glue them around the edge of the pumpkin shape and create an oval in the center to define the pumpkin.
How to make a messy bow for Fall
You’re going to cut two strips of the ticking fabric about one inch wide. Then, cut a strip of burlap and a few strips of the black ribbons.
Cut the ticking fabric into smaller strips from the two that you cut initially. Begin laying the ribbons in an X pattern.
I started with two burlap strips, then two ticking fabric strips, then two ric rac ribbon strips, then two polka dot ribbon strips, and finally some raffia.
Repeat that pattern, then place one burlap strip horizontally across the X pattern. Place two ticking fabric strips in an X pattern, then black polka dot ribbon, and ric rac ribbon.
Place a piece of ticking fabric horizontally across the X, then the black polka dot ribbon, and some raffia in an X.
Secure the center of the bow with a zip tie. Pull it tie and fluff out your bow. Cut the excess of the zip tie, and you’re done making the DIY fall messy bow!
Bring it all together
Hot glue the greenery pieces hanging from the stem of the pumpkin and cover the pumpkin stem with burlap.
Then, hot glue the messy bow just below the pumpkin’s stem. Lastly, hot glue the jute twine hanger to the back of the pumpkin!
I hot glued two ribbon strips over the ends of the jute twine to really secure it onto the pumpkin, but that is optional!
