How to Make a Dollar Tree DIY Shabby Farmhouse Wall Decor
First, you’re going to remove the Dollar Tree stretched canvas from its frame. Either hammer down or remove the staples, then stain the wood frame with Folkart Java Chalk Paint.
Dip a wet wipe into the brown paint, then spread it across the wood frame. The water helps the wood absorb the paint and gives it a stained finish rather than a painted look.
Set the stained frame to the side, and grab the Dollar Tree floral vase canvas. I used an Exacto knife to cut the printed design off the frame. I then went back around the print with scissors to cut one of the vases out of the printed design.
Then, I placed the stained frame on top of its original canvas and used an Exacto knife to trim the canvas to be the same size as the frame. Next, I painted the entire canvas with Apple Barrel Timeless Grey Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint.
I poured a small amount of Apple Barrel Snow White Multi-Surface Acrylic Paint onto the canvas near the top left and bottom right corners, then swirled it around with a paintbrush to blend it out. This gives the canvas a more dimensional color finish.
Allow the paint to completely dry on the canvas, then apply a coat of Mod Podge to adhere the Dollar Tree doily to the canvas. I also used a little bit of hot glue to make the doily stick to the edges of the canvas.
Once the doily is secured to the canvas, cut the excess doily from around the edges of the canvas. Next, I dabbed my fingertip in a small amount of white paint and dabbed it around the edges of the floral vase canvas to give it a bit of a faded look.
Bring it all together
Hot glue the painted canvas with a doily back onto the stained Dollar Tree canvas frame. You could also staple it onto the frame, but that is optional. Then, turn hot glue the floral vase onto the center of the doily canvas.
Get a clean chippy paintbrush and lightly dab it onto a small amount of white paint, then lightly brush it around the stained Dollar Tree canvas frame. Finally, hot glue popsicle sticks to the top of the back of the frame to allow you to hang your new Dollar Tree DIY Shabby Farmhouse Wall Decor!
