Farmhouse Americana Aesthetic: Uncle Sam Insert
Creating the Farmhouse Americana Aesthetic: Uncle Sam Insert DIY Kit was so easy with just a few simple steps and techniques!
The layered pieces included in the Uncle Sam Insert for Interchangeable Box Bases help create such good depth that allows you to distress and age the pieces.
By staining the pieces first, I create a solid base color to peek a boo through the distressed top colors! Once you have an even base that is completely dry, you can start adding your colors.

The Uncle Sam Insert patriotic craft kit is part of one of my favorite DIY craft kit collections – Interchangeable Box Bases and Inserts!
We have several Interchangeable collections in our shop, Slot/Tab, Huggers, Spindles, Arches, and MORE!

These feature a large base with a ‘box’ where you stage the inserts with any other embellishments you want (I’m a fan of moss or greenery)!

Change out the insert for each holiday or season (like this patriotic insert) to have something beautiful and unique on display at all times!
I shared my vision for this Farmhouse Americana Aesthetic: Uncle Sam Insert on a Facebook Live video (I craft there LIVE a lot!).

How to prep the Uncle Sam Insert
With any of our craft kits, the first step is always to sand the front surface of each piece. This removes any residue from the laser cutting process.
Skipping this step can cause your paint to look muddy or result in an uneven application. Don’t skip it!
Once all your pieces are sanded and cleaned, I you’re ready to start adding some paint.

Mix a bit of brown paint with water in a small bowl. Use a baby wipe to apply the thin paint to each piece of your Uncle Sam Insert DIY Kit.
Your goal is even coverage. Use a clean baby wipe to remove any excess, and allow each piece to dry completely.
I like to use a heat gun to speed up the drying process, but you can use a hair dryer on a low-cool setting as well.

Create the Farmhouse Americana Aesthetic
These next few steps are the most fun, in my opinion! By now, you should have picked your paint colors. You can see which colors I used in the supply list above or by watching the tutorial video.
The reason these are the most fun steps is because this is where you get to be the move creative! The colors I chose help me get the farmhouse americana aesthetic I was going for, but you can use whatever colors to create whichever aesthetic you prefer!
Either use fine tip paint brushes or paint markers to paint the pieces of your Uncle Sam Insert craft kit, and allow them to all dry completely.

Bring it all together
Once all of your pieces are fully dry, lightly distress the edges of the pieces to your Uncle Sam Insert kit. Keep a light hand – you can always distress it more, but if you take off too much, it’s more difficult to fix.
If you want to add a ‘grunge’ effect to your patriotic decor, you can lightly brush some dark wax over your craft.

Distress each piece to your liking, then glue them together! I encourage you to do a dry lay first to make sure you know where all the pieces go before adding the glue.
Let your glue dry, and you’re ready to decorate with your new farmhouse americana aesthetic: Uncle Sam insert!
