How to Make a DIY Fall Home Sign

First, I traced the shape of the Dollar Tree dry erase board on the burlap so that I could cut the burlap to the right size.

Dilute some white paint with a bit of water, then paint your burlap cutout. Let the white paint dry completely. I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process.

Apply a coat of Mod Podge to the back of the Dollar Tree dry erase board, and place the burlap onto the surface.

Trace the wood letters on your Dollar Tree cookie tin and cut the letters out of the tin. Next, I removed the stem from the sunflower and hammered down back of the sunflower.

How to get a faux rust finish

Hot glue the cookie tin letters to the front of the wood letters. Then, apply a coat of Mod Podge on each of the letters.

Let the Mod Podge dry, then paint over the letters with Apple Barrel Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint. The texture of the cookie tin helps some parts hold more paint and helps create the faux rust finish.

Cut two pieces of reed to fit vertically on the DIY fall sign. To stain them, use a wet wipe to spread brown paint across both of them.

Once they’re dry, hot glue them on either side of the board. Before I hot glued the letters, I painted the edges of them white.

Bring it all together

Hot glue the letters and the sunflower to the burlap, and use the sunflower as the O in Home. Then, hot glue a half wood bead in each corner on the reed.

Lastly, hot glue the ends of a piece of the Dollar Tree nautical rope to the back of the dry erase board to create the hanger for this adorable DIY fall home sign!
