How to Make a Watermelon Printable DIY Home Decor

You’re going to start this adorable summer DIY project by removing the canvas from the Dollar Tree 8×10 canvas.

Try and cut the canvas off the frame in a way that keeps the canvas in one piece. That way you can use the canvas in another project!

Next, you’re going to stain the wooden canvas frame with brown paint. I like to use Apple Barrel Burnt Umber paint because it is affordable and still has great quality for DIY projects!

Mix a bit of water with brown paint, and use a wet wipe to spread the mixture across the frame. I used my heat gun to quickly dry the frame after I stained it.

Get the floral ribbon garland (SCORE at Hobby Lobby!) and staple it onto the canvas frame. Then, I used a pair of aviation snips to cut the excess ribbon off the frame.

Paint a black line on the long edges on the front of the 4×6 canvas. Then paint the sides of the canvas with the Apple Barrel Flamingo Coral Paint.

Stain the two craft sticks with the same technique you used to stain the Dollar Tree canvas frame, and set them to the side.

To decoupage the watermelon printable onto the 4×6 canvas, you need to apply a coat of Mod Podge to the canvas’ surface.

Then place the watermelon printable onto the Mod Podge. Use a rolling pin or some balled-up plastic saran wrap to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles that formed in the printable.

Hot glue the craft sticks across the top and bottom on the front of the canvas, and use scissors to trim the ends of the craft sticks.

You can go back over the edges with a sanding sponge to smooth them out if you need to. then, hot glue the 4×6 canvas onto the floral ribbon garland of the 8×10 canvas.

Bring it all together

I went over the frame and paint sticks with a bit of white paint to give the wood a bit of a white-washed finish. Keep a light hand, and you can go back over with a wet wipe if you add too much paint.

Now it’s time to make the hanger for your Watermelon Printable DIY Home Decor! I used jute twine and wood beads for mine. Start by adding the beads onto the twine to determine how many beads you need.

Then, pull the beads off and divide them into separate bowls. Pick your paint colors (I used Flamingo Coral, Snow White, and Jet Black), and pour them each into a bowl.

You can spray in some water and then swirl the beads around until they are all evenly coated in the paint color.

I used my heat gun to dry the beads, then threaded them onto the jute twine in a pattern. Hot glue the beads on the end of the twine keep them in place.

Next, hot glue the ends of the jute twine beaded hanger onto the back of the 8×10 canvas frame! You can hot glue a piece of ribbon over the twine ends to really secure them in place.

The finishing touches

Hot glue the black buffalo check ribbon across the top and bottom on the front of the 8×10 canvas. Lastly, I tied a small bow out of the same ribbon, secured it with jute twine, and glued it just above the watermelon printable.
