How to Make an Affordable DIY Farmhouse Fall Sign

Start this project by painting the bubble stickers with your dark brown spray paint. Get an even coat on the stickers and let the paint dry.

I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process. If you don’t have a heat gun, you can use a hairdryer on the low cool setting to dry the paint.

Next, I sanded down my wooden rectangle surface with a sanding sponge to get it ready to stain. I sprayed the wood with water (I have a continuous spray water bottle that I found on Amazon).

Pour your brown paint (I used Apple Barrel Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint) onto the wooden surface and use a wet wipe to spread it across the surface.

Once the paint was dry, I started sticking the bubble stickers onto the wood. I placed the bubble stickers in a line across the bottom of the wood.

I didn’t do a full line across the top because I had to leave space for the messy bow to go in the middle, so I put three from each corner of the wood.

Make sure your stickers are secured on the wood and paint over the front of the wood with white paint. Be sure to paint the sides of the wood too.

Easy DIY Farmhouse Decor

As the paint was drying, it kind of had a crackled finish on the bubble stickers which was perfect for the aged, farmhouse feel I wanted for this DIY Fall sign.

Pour a small amount of brown paint on a paper plate or piece of wax paper and use a clean, dry paintbrush to lightly brush the brown paint on the bubble stickers.

You can use a wet wipe to smudge the brown paint and create an aged finish. Next, place your poster stickers on the wood, and lightly dry brush a bit of white paint over the sticker letters.

How to make a messy bow for Fall decor

Cut a few strips of each of the ribbons and fabrics that you want to use for your DIY Fall messy bow. You can see the patterns of ribbon and fabric that I used, but feel free to customize your messy bow!

Lay your ribbon and fabric strips in an X pattern, alternating patterns as you go. Then, pinch the center of the strips and secure them with a piece of jute twine.

Push all the pieces up from the center, like you’re making a pom pom, and trim the ends to even out the strips.

Bring it all together

Next, I made the hanger for this easy DIY farmhouse fall sign. Thread the wood beads onto the jute twine and hot glue the ends of the twine to the back of the sign.

Finally, hot glue your DIY fall messy bow onto the wood sign!
