Let’s get started!

To make this tutorial easier for you, I am going to break it down ornament by ornament! The first ornament I want to tell you how to make is the one with the cute little Dollar Tree truck.

We will call this DIY Ornament #1.

How to Make Christmas DIY Ornament #1

For this DIY ornament, you are going to need the Dollar Tree craft sticks, the Dollar Tree truck ornament, a Dollar Tree duster, the buffalo check ribbon, jute twine, and the Folkart Java Chalk Paint.

The first step is to trim the curved edges of the craft sticks. I used 7 craft sticks. Attach them by hot-gluing a trimmed craft stick to each end of the ornament.

Next, stain the craft sticks with the Folkart Java Chalk Paint. To get the stained look instead of a painted look, first wet the wood.

Then, pour the paint directly onto the wood and spread it with a baby wipe. This really helps the wood absorb the paint.

Add the cute little truck

Don’t get me wrong, the Dollar Tree truck ornaments are adorable, but I made some changes to it!

First, I removed the little Christmas tree from the back of the truck and then sanded off the glitter from the tire hoods. Next, I hot glued the truck to the ornament.

The finishing touches

Take a small piece of the Dollar Tree duster, roll it around in your hands to make it a ball, and hot glue it into the bed of the little truck. Next, take the buffalo check ribbon and make a small bow.

I hot glued mine above the truck, but you can put yours where you like it best.

I very lightly brushed a little bit of Folkart White Chalk paint across the truck to make it look like it had snow on it.

Finally, I hot glued a piece of jute twine to the back of the ornament so it can actually hang on my Christmas tree!

To make the second DIY ornament, you’re going to use 3 1-quart paint sticks from Home Depot and 2 of the craft sticks from Dollar Tree.

Trim each of them as you did in the previous ornament, and secure them together in the same way.

Next, stain the sticks with the Folkart Java Chalk Paint. Allow the paint to dry before moving to the next step.

Once the wood is dry, grab the Dollar Tree stencil that you want to use and place it onto the wood. I used Folkart White Chalk Paint to paint over the stencil, but you could use whatever color best matches your decor.

Finally, hot glue the Rick Rack Ribbon to the top of the ornament, and it is ready to go on your tree!

The final ornament I am going to explain how to make is the Believe Ornament.

For this one, you will need 3 1-quart paint sticks from Home Depot, 2 craft sticks from Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree wired garland, Dollar Tree Christmas Berries floral pick, wood believe lettering from Hobby Lobby and buffalo check ribbon.

Repeat the steps of trimming, securing, and staining the craft sticks and paint sticks exactly as you did in the previous ornaments. Next, glue the believe lettering onto the wood ornament.

I used left-over wired garland that I had already painted from a previous craft project. If you’re using a new wired garland, dry brush over it with the Folkart White chalk paint and let it dry.

Once it is dry, cut it to the length that you want and hot glue it above the believe lettering.

The finishing touches

Next, cut a small piece of the Dollar Tree Christmas Berries Floral Pick and hot glue it on top of the wired garland.

Then, hot glue a little bow made with the buffalo check ribbon right in the center of the garland and floral pick.

Finally, hot glue a piece of the jute twine to the top of the ornament! Let the glue dry, then go hang it on your tree!
