Supplies for Primitive Spindle American Flag DIY Craft Kit
Before getting started, gather your supplies.
Additional supplies needed:
- Primitive Spindle American Flag DIY Kit
- Kilz Dark Wax
- Paint colors:
- Dark Blue (think deep navy)
- Heritage Red
- White
- Sponge
- Ink Pad
- Spray water bottle
- Paint brushes
- Baby wipes
- Sandpaper or sanding sponge
- Stickfast Super Glue
How to prep the Primitive Patriotic Kit
With any of our craft kits, the first step is always to sand the front surface of each piece. This removes any residue from the laser cutting process.
Skipping this step can cause your paint to look muddy or result in an uneven application. Don’t skip it!
Once all your pieces are sanded and cleaned, I you’re ready to start adding some color.
For this project, I applied a coat of Kilz Dark Wax to stain my wood and help create the rustic americana aesthetic. Alternatively, you can mix a bit of brown paint with water and apply with a baby wipe.
Paint your pieces
These next few steps are so easy thanks to how simple this patriotic craft kit is! With only a few pieces, this won’t take you very long at all.
Pick your colors, and start painting! I painted the backer of my sign a dark navy blue. For the spindles, I chose to alternate red and white, and I painted the star white.
Once all the paint is completely dry, apply a bit of wax or stain overtop the pieces. Keep a light hand!
Lightly sand each piece to distress and expose the stained wood beneath.
Bring it all together!
The final step is assembly. I always suggest doing a dry lay to make sure you know where all the pieces go. Add your glue and allow it to dry completely before handling your craft.
Just like that, you’re finished!
