Sunflower Napkin DIY Farmhouse Decor
Who doesn’t love sunflower decor, especially in fall?? I do, which is why I am so proud of this sunflower napkin DIY farmhouse decor!
This project is all of my favorite things: adorable, affordable, and easy! AND, you can change out the sunflower napkin for a different design to make this work for everyday decor or match your decor style!
Sunflower Napkin DIY Farmhouse Decor
I started this project by flipping my Dollar Tree circle sign over and removing the sticker. To make it easier to pull the sticker off, I used my heat gun to heat up the adhesive.
Then, I removed the twine hanger from the top and got ready to decoupage the napkin to the surface!
In order to decoupage a napkin, I always start by separating the napkin plies and isolating the patterned ply. If you decoupage it all together, the top ply might not adhere properly and could start to pull up from the surface later.
Separating the napkin plies makes the patterned ply slightly see-through, so you need to paint your surface white so you don’t see the brown showing through the napkin.
I used Waverly white chalk paint for this and used my heat gun to quickly dry the paint. If you don’t have a heat gun, you can use a hairdryer on the low-cool setting.
How to decoupage
Once the paint is dry, apply a coat of Mod Podge to the surface of the sign and carefully place the patterned napkin ply onto the sign.
Cover the surface with a piece of plastic saran wrap and use your fingers or a rolling pin to smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles in the napkin.
The plastic saran wrap acts as a non-stick barrier between the napkin and your hands or the rolling pin and keeps the napkin from pulling up from the surface.
Let the Mod Podge dry completely (I used my heat gun again) then go over the edges of the sign with a sanding sponge to tear off the excess napkin from the sign.
Next, I hot glued the bamboo wreath overtop the napkin on the front of my DIY farmhouse sign! It was the perfect size for this project!
I set the sign to the side for a minute and removed the bell from the Dollar Tree windmill and painted it Waverly Ink (black) chalk paint.
How to make a DIY farmhouse bow
Now it’s time to make the bow! Cut two strips of the jute twine lattice ribbon and two of the buffalo check ribbon.
Lay the jute lattice ribbon on top of the buffalo check ribbon and food the ends inward to the center of the strips. Secure the center with a piece of jute twine.
Lay the second strip of buffalo check ribbon on top of the second piece of jute lattice ribbon and secure it behind the folded pieces with a piece of jute twine.
Pull the ends down and then trim them to the length you want! Now you have a simple farmhouse bow for your sign!
Bring it all together!
Alright, hot glue the twine hanger back onto the sign. I hot glue the ends to the back of the sign with a strip of ribbon over both ends to make it more secure.
Then, hot glue your DIY farmhouse bow at the top center of your sign and hot glue some Lamb’s Ear greenery on either side of the bow, coming from underneath it.
Lastly, hot glue the painted Dollar Tree windmill to the middle of your sign! Make sure all the hot glue is dry and you’re ready to decorate with this adorable DIY farmhouse sign!
I hope you enjoyed this Sunflower Napkin DIY Farmhouse Decor as much as I did and decide to make it for yourself! If you do, I would love to see how yours turns out!
