Reversible Trick or Treat Sign
This Reversible Trick or Treat Sign is a fun and practical addition to your Halloween porch decor. One side welcomes trick-or-treaters, while the other lets them know when you have run out of candy for the night.
Because the wooden craft kit arrives unfinished, you can paint, stain, distress, or decorate each side to match your Halloween style. I used classic Halloween colors, polka dots, painted wood pieces, and ribbon to create my double-sided door hanger.

- Halloween Trick or Treat / Out of Candy Craft Kit
- Ribbon of choice
- Raffia
- Twine
- White Paint
- DecoArt Grey Storm
- DecoArt Spiced Pumpkin
- Black Paint
- Apple Barrel Golden Sunset
- Apple Barrel Burnt Umber
- Gator Zip Sander
- Glue Gun
- Heat gun
How to Make a Reversible Trick or Treat Sign
Paint the Trick or Treat Side
Paint the wooden background green and allow it to dry. Add black polka dots to give the sign a playful Halloween pattern.
Paint the Trick or Treat lettering orange. I painted the spider purple, the ghost white, and used black paint to add the ghost’s face.
Once the paint is completely dry, lightly sand the background and lettering if you want the sign to have a distressed finish.
Paint the Out of Candy Side
Paint the background of the Out of Candy side black. Then, paint the lettering white so it stands out against the dark background.
I kept the spider purple and the ghost white to coordinate with the Trick or Treat side. Add the ghost’s facial details with black paint.
Allow all of the painted pieces to dry before assembling the sign.
Assemble the Reversible Halloween Sign
Arrange the painted pieces on both sides of the wooden sign before applying glue. Check the placement and spacing, then glue each piece securely into place.
Thread ribbon through the holes at the top to create the hanger. You can also add raffia or twine to give the finished sign more texture.
Hang the Trick or Treat side facing outward when you are welcoming visitors. When the candy is gone, simply turn the sign around to display the Out of Candy message.
