Let’s get started

I’m sure you’re eager to start cutting up that old pair of denim jeans, so go ahead and cut a back pocket off the jeans.  Next, you’re going to grab your Dollar Tree canvas and remove the canvas from the frame.

This project is what is called a reverse canvas DIY, which means that we are going to remove the canvas from the frame and reattach it to the back of the frame with the frame exposed.

Be careful when you remove the canvas and do your best not to rip or tear it. After you have the canvas removed from the frame, you need to do something about the staples. You can either remove them or hammer them back in (I chose to hammer them back into the frame).

Now that the canvas is ready, it is time to stain the wood frame! To do this, you’ll need a wet wipe, water spray bottle, and Apple Barrel Burnt Umber Acrylic Paint.

Start by spraying the wet wipe with water, then pour the brown paint onto the wet wipe. Next, wipe the paint across the Dollar Tree canvas frame. The water will help the wood absorb the paint and give it a stained finish rather than a painted look.

You could always buy wood stain, but I find that it is usually much more expensive than using my technique!

Bring the pieces together

Allow the frame to dry before you move on. I used my heat gun to speed up the drying process. If you don’t have a heat gun,  you can use a hairdryer on the low cool setting!

Once the wood has dried, you’re going to hot glue the canvas onto the back of the wood frame. I trimmed the canvas before I hot glued it so that it wasn’t hanging over the edge of the wood frame.

My new Lynn Lilly Surebonder Mini Glue Gun came in handy for this DIY spring decor project! Once I had the canvas reattached to its frame, I hot glued the jean pocket onto the canvas. I centered it on the lower half of the canvas so I could add greenery above it.

Be sure not to hot glue the front patch of the pocket down so you can slide the greenery sprigs into the pocket!

For this jean pocket faux flower box, I used a boxwood greenery spray and a baby’s breath greenery spray. First, separate pieces of the boxwood greenery spray and push them into the jean pocket.

Then, do the same thing with the baby’s breath greenery spray. I layered the baby’s breath greenery spray in front of the boxwood pieces.

The finishing touches

Just a couple more details to add to this adorable DIY spring decor! The next thing you’re going to add is the cute little lace heart. To do this, I first cut a heart out of wax paper. Then, I cut the lace to cover the wax paper heart and hot glued the lace in place.

Once the lace was secured on the wax paper, you can hot glue it onto the center of the jean pocket.

Y’all know how much I love half wood beads! I only used four half wood beads for this project, and I hot glued one in each corner of the Dollar Tree canvas frame.

Next, I used the Haute fur snowflake yarn. I hot glued a strip of it across the top of the jean pocket, underneath the greenery sprays.

Next, I lightly sanded a Dollar Tree wood heart sticker and hot glued it to the center of the lace heart. If you aren’t a fan of the bright red heart, you can always paint it a different color!

I like the pop of color the little red heart gives this simple spring DIY decor, but that’s just my opinion!

The last step of turning an old pair of jeans into DIY spring decor is to use craft sticks to create a hanger on the back of your Dollar Tree reverse canvas.

I used two craft sticks. Hot glue the first one onto the middle of the top of the canvas, then hot glue the second one on top of the first craft stick, but slightly lower.
