Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different colors for the Spooky Season sign?

Yes. The unfinished wood kit can be painted, stained, or decorated with colors that match your Halloween decor. Traditional orange, black, and white work well, but you can also use pink, purple, green, or neutral farmhouse colors.

Can this Halloween door hanger be displayed outside?

The sign works best on a covered porch or protected front door. If it will be exposed to moisture or direct sunlight, apply an outdoor-rated protective sealer after the paint and glue have completely dried.

Can I attach the sign to a Halloween wreath?

Yes. Use ribbon, floral wire, or pipe cleaners to secure the finished wooden sign to the center of a Halloween wreath.

Is this Halloween craft suitable for beginners?

Yes. The wood pieces arrive precut, so the project mainly involves painting, arranging, and gluing the pieces. Children can also help paint the kit with adult supervision.

Ways to Display Your Halloween Sign

This finished Halloween sign can be displayed in several ways. Hang it directly on your front door, attach it to a seasonal wreath, display it above a Halloween mantel, or use it as part of a covered porch arrangement.

If you plan to display the sign outdoors, keep it protected from rain and direct exposure to the weather unless you seal the wood with an outdoor-rated protective finish.

The best thing about using craft kits to make your own home decor is they are quite literally a blank canvas. You can stain, paint, decoupage, and decorate them however you want to!

This Halloween sign can be hung with twine, ribbon, or rope as a simple door hanger, or you can attach it to a wreath to make a unique Halloween wreath for your front porch!

This is a wood blank craft kit that I cut and sell in my shop! It would make a fun Halloween kid’s craft with adult supervision, but is also suitable for adult crafting.

How to Make a DIY Halloween Door Hanger

  1. How to Make a Spooky Season Door Hanger
  2. Clean the unfinished wooden pieces with a baby wipe or slightly damp cloth. Lightly sand away any laser residue or scorch marks if needed.
  3. Apply brown paint or wood stain to the wooden pieces to create a warm base color. Allow them to dry completely.
  4. Paint the ghost, pumpkin, bat, spider, witch hat, moon, stars, lettering, and other decorative pieces with your chosen Halloween colors.
  5. Once the paint is dry, lightly sand the edges and raised areas if you want the door hanger to have a distressed or rustic finish.
  6. Arrange all of the painted pieces on the round wooden base before applying glue. This allows you to check the spacing and placement.
  7. Glue each piece securely to the wooden round and allow the adhesive to dry according to its instructions.
  8. Attach ribbon, rope, or twine through the holes at the top of the sign.
  9. Hang your finished Spooky Season sign directly on your front door or use it as the centerpiece of a Halloween wreath!
