Small Decorative Birds

I am SO EXCITED to share these small decorative birds with you because they are SO SIMPLE to make and it’s so easy to customize them as well!

When I was crafting this pair of decor birds, I went with a very neutral mindset. I wanted them to accent my home decor, but blend with the style I already have.

For that reason, I used white, black and grey paint. However, if you wanted a more spring feel or bold style, you can use ANY other color you want!

These decorative birds just require a light sanding, a small bit of glue, and a quick coat of paint to be added into your home decor.

That’s the beauty of DIY’ing your own home decor, especially using laser cut craft kits like the pair of decor birds kit that I used for this!

How to make Small Decorative Birds

The first step of making any of my kits is to sand each piece. When we cut them on our laser machines, it can leave a layer of residue that, in my opinion, interferes with crafting with them.

Once they’re all sanded, I went ahead and assembled each of the small birds, except for their wings. Use either Gorilla Super Glue or E6000 to do this.

Make sure the glue is dry and the pieces are secured together, then get your paint ready. I mixed a small bit of white with a darker grey to tone it down just a bit.

I used a foam sponge to apply the mixture to both sides of each of my decor birds. Then, I used a clean paintbrush to swipe a small bit of just the grey paint onto the birds to add dimension/detail.

Next, I used a clean foam sponge to dab white paint onto both sides of the birds. I used a gift card to lightly scrape the paint off the birds and create a simple distressed/aged effect.

Bring it all together

Once all the sides were finished and the paint was completely dry, I lightly sanded the edges on each side.

Then, I mixed a bit of black paint and water and applied to to the edges where I just sanded. This adds to the aged/farmhouse feel of these small decorative birds!

Lastly, repeat the painting steps on the wings and glue them onto the birds once they’re completely dry! What do you think??
