What you’ll need:

Let’s get to the tutorial!

I’m going to walk you through the standard steps of crafting our diy kits, because they’re all essentially the same process – if you want to see my exact steps, paint colors, or products used, you can watch the tutorial video on Youtube.

First off, you need to prep each piece of your craft kit. There are two ways you can do this – lightly sand the top of each piece or wipe them with a baby wipe.

Both methods will work to remove the laser residue that accumulates during the cutting process. Cleaning that off ensures even coverage when you paint, stain, glue or decoupage.

Pick your paint colors

No matter what kit your crafting, you have to choose your paint colors! You can use any paint you prefer, but when working on these smaller kits, sometimes I like to use paint pens or markers, especially for the detailing!

If you’re wanting a distressed finish on your kit, I’d recommend staining each piece with brown paint before you paint. This deepens the underlayer of the kit and makes the distressing more noticeable when you’re finished.

Make sure you allow your paint to dry completely before moving on to your next color or layer to avoid unwanted smudging or mixing of colors. I like to use a heat gun to speed up the drying process!

Bring it all together

For this next part, I’d definitely recommend you watch the Youtube tutorial because I am not a descriptive enough writer to explain it to you in detail here 😂

These craft kits are designed to be layered and create depth for your finished product, which is why our customers love them so much!

However, with that comes the difficulty of making sure the pieces are glued in the correct spot.

You can always use the product photos from the listing or the pictures here on the blog to assemble them yourselves, but we can’t send replacement pieces or kits for improper assembly.

With that said, PLEASE email info@themakersmap.com if you have ANY questions about assembling your kit. We are so happy to help you figure it out so you will LOVE your finished craft!
